Golden Knots

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

In a large mixing bowl, dissolve yeast and 2 tbsp sugar in 1/2 cup water.

* Step 2

In a saucepan, heat the milk, butter and remaining waer to 110 to 115 degrees; add to yeast mixture.

* Step 3

Add eggs, salt, 5 cups flour and the remaining sugar; beat until smooth.

* Step 4

Add enugh of the remaining flour to form a soft dough.

* Step 5

Turn onto a floured surface; knead until smooth and elastic; about 6-8 minutes.

* Step 6

Place in a geased bowl, turning once to grease top.

* Step 7

Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled, about 1 hour.

* Step 8

Punch dough down. Divide into thirds; roll each portion into a 14-inch roll.

* Step 9

Divide each roll into 14 pieces.

* Step 10

Roll pieces into 9-inch ropes and tie into knots.

* Step 11

Place the rolls 2 in. apart on greased baking sheets.

* Step 12

Cover and let rise until doubled, about 30 minutes.

* Step 13

Bake at 350°F for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown.

* Step 14

Brush with melted butter.

* Step 15

YIELD: 3-1/2 dozen

* Step 16

NOTE: No matter how you form these tender, golden rolls (cloverleaf or Parkerhouse shapes also work well), it's impossible to eat just on.
