Cold Tofu with ‘Nattō’, ‘Takuan’ & Kimchi

When I am too tired to cook anything on a hot day, ‘Hiyayakko’ is a go-to dish. ‘Hiyayakko’, a Japanese dish of chilled Tofu, can be enjoyed with a variety of toppings. Today I added a mixture of ‘Nattō’ (Fermented Soy Beans), ‘Takuan’ (Japanese Pickled Daikon) and Kimchi. It is a filling and satisfying dish to me.

Ingredient

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

In a small bowl, mix Nattō with the sauce and mustard that are most likely included in the container. Add Spring Onion, Kimchi and ‘Takuan’, and mix to combine.

Nattō (Fermented Soy Beans) is a traditional Japanese food. I love it and I often eat it for lunch. I know many people hate it because of its smell and slimy texture, but many people are interested in Nattō and want to eat it for health benefits. I recommend to choose Nattō made of small Soy Beans, and mix with something you like. Spicy food such as Kimchi goes well with Nattō. Try my ‘Spicy Natto & Avocado Rice Bowl’ OR ‘Natto, Kimchi & Egg Rice Bowl’. Here is another suggestion for you to try.

If you are thinking to cook Nattō Fried Rice, try this Mazegohan instead. I much prefer Nattō Mazegohan to Nattō Fried Rice. To make this Mazegoan, you just mix the ingredients with cooked rice, just like rice salad. The dish tastes great, nutritiously excellent, and healthy. And easy to make!!!

4 . Spicy Natto & Avocado Rice Bowl

Spicy Natto & Avocado Rice Bowl

This is a plant-protein-packed power rice bowl dish. Spicy condiments such as Toban Djan (Chilli Bean Sauce) and Gochujang (Korean Spicy Miso) go very well with Nattō. I know some people find the smell of Nattō too overpowering, but this dish is not too bad. Sesame Oil makes the dish smell more appetising.

Ingredient

1-2 tablespoons

Edamame *optional

1 pinch

Salt

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Mix Natto with the sauce and mustard that are most likely included in the container, add Gochujang (Korean Spicy Miso) OR Toban Djan (Chilli Bean Sauce), chopped Spring Onion and a few drops Sesame Oil, and mix well.

* Step 2

Add Cucumber, Edamame and 1 pinch Salt, and mix to combine, then add Avocado.

* Step 3

Half fill a bowl with hot cooked rice and cover with the Nattō mixture. Add some Toasted Nori and saved Spring Onion on top, and enjoy.
