Devil's food cake

Devil’s Food Cake is a classic cake recipe that everyone love. It is a decadent cake that is rich, moist, and fudgy. Bursting with intense chocolate flavor and covered in dark chocolate buttercream frosting. It is so soft and each bite will melt in your mouth. The cake is dense but still tender, making it absolutely irresistible.

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

Preheat oven to 350F. Butter and flour round cake pan and line the bottom with parchment paper.

* Step 2

In a large bowl, sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, and baking powder.

* Step 3

In a large mixing bowl add the ½ cup butter and beat on medium speed until creamy.

* Step 4

In a bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder and oil and add to the butter along with the sugars. Beat on medium speed until very light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.

* Step 5

Add the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

* Step 6

Beat in vanilla.

* Step 7

Add a third of the flour mixture followed by half of the milk and half of the sour cream. Continue alternating between the flour, milk, and sour cream until combined.

* Step 8

Add hot coffee and carefully whisk together until well combined.

* Step 9

Pour the batter into the prepared cake pan. Bake for 40 to 45 minutes or until the cake start to pull away from the sides of the pan and the center springs back when gently pressed. Let the cakes cool completely

* Step 10

Beat 4 sticks butter until smooth.

* Step 11

Add in the dark cocoa, vanilla extract and salt, and mix on low until the ingredients are fully incorporated.

* Step 12

Slowly mix in the powdered sugar. Half way through, add in the heavy cream to make the frosting easier to mix. Scrape the sides and bottom of the bowl.

* Step 13

Mix in the cooled, melted dark chocolate on a low speed until the ingredients are fully incorporated and the desired consistency is reached.

* Step 14

Cover with plastic wrap to prevent crusting and set aside till ready to use.

* Step 15

Carefully invert the cake and remove the parchment paper.

* Step 16

Cut cake in half creating 2 thin rounds.

* Step 17

Place a cake layer on a cake stand, spread about 3/4 cup of frosting over the top. Place the second cake and repeat with the remaining frosting all over the outside of the cake.

* Step 18

Sprinkle grated chocolate on top of the cake.
