This wonderful harvest festival of India falls on 14 th January each year and signifies the onset of new crop ls harvested . It brings new joy and prosperity for the farmers who worship their Sun God who gives life , the crops, the land and cattle. Sankranti is identified with many names in each region. In Jammu Kashmir, it is Shishur Sankraat, in Punjab , it's Lohri, in Gujrat, Deev Daman it's called Uttarayan in Maharashtra it's Makar Sankranti, in Karnataka it's Suggi Habba, in Tamil Nadu it's Pongal , in Puducherry it's Thai Pongal, in Assam it's Bihu, in west bengal, it's Poush Songkranti and there are many more names like Khichdi Parv, Magh Sankraat, Makraat, etc.
It's a wonderful and most vibrant festival! The dishes which are cooked on this day are Pongal, Sakre Pongal, Khichdi, Bhogichi Bhaji, Til Gulachi Poli, Tigud Laddu,Pati shapta, Ellu Bella, Obattu, Tamarind Rice, Puliogare, Til Rice and many more!Being a Maharashtrian, it's a must to make Tilgud Laddu so sharing this delicious recipe, rich in calcium, iron and proteins!
