Best wishes to all of you on Makara Sankranti 🌞🌞🌻🌻🌾🌾 This wonderful harvest festival of India falls on 14 th January each year and signifies the onset of new crop ls harvested . It brings new joy and prosperity for the farmers who worship their Sun God who gives life , the crops, the land and cattle. Sankranti is identified with many names in each region. In Jammu Kashmir, it is Shishur Sankraat, in Punjab , it's Lohri, in Gujrat, Deev Daman it's called Uttarayan in Maharashtra it's Makar Sankranti, in Karnataka it's Suggi Habba, in Tamil Nadu it's Pongal , in Puducherry it's Thai Pongal, in Assam it's Bihu, in west bengal, it's Poush Songkranti and there are many more names like Khichdi Parv, Magh Sankraat, Makraat, etc. It's a wonderful and most vibrant festival! Sesame seeds

Cooking instructions

* Step 1

First, sieve the sesame seeds. Then wash them and dry in sunlight on a clean cloth. This may take 3 to 4 days. You need to do this 1 week ahead.

* Step 2

An alternative way is to sieve the sesame seeds. Rub clean with a thick towel. Then slowly roast them in a thick kadhai for 20 to 25 minutes till they are crisp and the raw flavour has gone.

* Step 3

Then cool and powder them. Mix in jaggery and cardamom powder. Add the ghee too for smoothness.

* Step 4

Then grind everything together again till the mixture gathers together and you can bind it in laddus. Make laddus as per your preferred size. I like to make small ones, so I could make 20 to 25 pieces.

* Step 5

Offer to Sun God as per tradition and then distribute among family and friends saying as we say in Marathi,"Tilgul ghya, God God bola" meaning : Eat the tilgud sweet and let your speech be sweet as tilgud. Enjoy! 🎉🌾🌻 Happy Festival of Sankranti to all! 🌞🌞
